Female military chaplaincy in Ukraine. Role, challenges, and prospects
This research aims to explore the current challenges for female chaplains and how they perceive and perform their roles, considering the widespread complementarian view on female ministry in Ukrainian church traditions.
Why this topic matters to me
I want to highlight this topic since I believe female ministry often can be underestimated and unnoticed. Military chaplaincy is very unusual and, at the same time, dangerous activity, but women in Ukraine are willing to serve in this way, despite obstacles and prejudice. Female chaplaincy is just at the stage of development and has a lot of prospects in Ukraine, so I believe, it is worth society's attention and my admiration.
Why I believe it is important to society
Since chaplaincy in Ukraine, as an official institution, is a quite new phenomenon, there is still room for discussion and formation, which requires the implementation and improvement of not only laws but also practices. It is important to rethink the role of the chaplain in general according to the Ukrainian context and needs, including the gender issue.
Impact of the Ladies of Bethany Chair on my life and career
I am grateful to the Ladies of Bethany for the opportunity to disclose the topic of my concerns through academia. Education is a key method to address challenges in a quality way. I plan to use the obtained knowledge in the local projects to benefit my country and community.
I am happy to experience one more year of being a student and build new connections with people, who share the same values and vision.
The difference I hope my work will make in the world
I hope that this work will bring attention to female chaplaincy in Ukraine, highlighting the need for a reevaluation of the role of women in the Ukrainian church and society. Recognizing women as active agents in spiritual care can help build a robust response to the social and spiritual challenges facing modern Ukraine.
